Tasty Thursday
OK, so here's another one of these cool blog things I have found to do. This one is hosted by Trista at The Pumpkin Patch. And it is simply sharing a favorite *tried and true* recipe. So I'm posting a recipe. This is one of Chip's recipes that he got from an Italian buddy at he firehouse. It is for meatballs in marinara sauce, and it is so yummy! Chip's made it a couple times, but I gave it a try too, and oh so good! (As long as you don't make the little mistake I did with the sauce!)
Meatballs:
1 lb. ground beef
1 # Italian sausage
1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
2 eggs
1/4 bunch parsley, chopped
2 Tablespoons garlic salt
1 Tablespoon black pepper
combine all ingredients together. Form into balls. Brown in skillet on med-low heat until cooked through. Set aside.
Marinara Sauce:
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large can tomato sauce
1 small can tomato paste
Italian seasoning and salt to taste
saute onions and garlic in large skillet until onions are transparent. Add in remaining ingredients.
Add meatballs to sauce and simmer for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally. **Add water as needed to keep the sauce from being too thick. (this is the part I didn't do, and the sauce was VERY thick - Chip had to add it in at the end to thin the sauce!)
I haven't tried it, but you could probably put the meatballs and sauce in a crockpot (with some water!) and allow to simmer for several hours.
We serve this over spaghetti noodles - YUM!!!

I bet my husband would like this. He loves just about anything with meat in it :)
ReplyDeleteI have never made meatballs or meatloaf in all the 5 years of marriage...I will have to try! Thanks for sharing!
