Photo Hunt....Rare

This week's theme was very difficult for me. I had an extremely hard time thinking of something rare that I either had a picture of or could take a picture of. Then I thought about my son. I know this may seem a very odd take on the word Rare, but it's the only thing that came to my mind, and it stayed there. Not rare as in unusual, but more undone - as in a steak that's not completely cooked.

So...this is a picture of my sweet baby boy (who turns 13 in 32 days!!) when he was born. I was only 24 weeks pregnant when he was born. So, he wasn't "fully cooked" - he was "rare"! Instead of spending those last months "baking" in my womb, he had to do so in an incubator. So there's my very odd take on RARE!

  3. Yes, Jennifer - very rare. I'm so thrilled he is going to be 13! Amazing. My niece was born at 25 1/2 weeks - she is now 4 1/2. I too thought of her when I saw what the theme was.

Happy Saturday. And Happy Birthday to your special son!

  5. Wow! He definitely was rare - as in not quite "done" enough. What a miracle. I'm so happy that he's turning 13.

Love your take on the "rare" theme this week.

I like that -- rare as in undercooked. :) So glad everything turned out well for him and he's healthy and strong!

  13. Oh Jennifer...this brought tears to my eyes (okay, they're actually rolling right down my cheeks)! I'm so happy for your family on your miraculously rare son! 24 weeks...wow. It was hard enough going through my youngest's week+ in the NICU...I honestly cannot begin to imagine all you went through!

  14. Usually it's 28 weeks but yours was 24. And he's a teenager now. Everything went great! :) And I like that "fully cooked", "baking in my womb" analogy. :D
